I will never understand why, in the name of "pride", we encourage hate.
I get so sick of being treated like a traitor because I didn't attend an HBCU. I would think people would be proud I achieved in higher education despite the campus I attended ... but to some, I'm nothing because I went to a "PWI" ...
Ah well ... Geaux Tigers :) (and Gold Rush, since I went to XULA for a year :)
Even worse is the kind of foolishness I encountered in class the other night.
One of my group project members saw my Zeta notepad holder and said "I didn't know you were a Zeta", I said, "Yeah I am" ... She scrunches up her nose and says "Booooo". I look at her, and reply "That was rude!". She continues to scowl. She tells me "I'll get you a pink one, everything good comes in pink" ... And for the rest of the class she seemed to have an attitude.
I didn't charge her, because it's not my place, but assumed she was referring to the ladies of AKA. She never said she was a member (and was dressed in blue and white attire that day), but I left it alone and kept going. Now she's much younger than I am, but was that necessary?
I have friends in EVERY organization under the NPHC umbrella, as well as other social and service groups ... And as much as my Big Sisters tried to deter us "fraternizing with the enemy", I rebelled.
Why should I hate someone because they made a different decision than I did? We're all in the same business -- to serve our organization and uphold it's ideals. And the same with colleges, we're all there to get an education.
Of course I encourage healthy competition during Greek Shows and football games, etc. But after all the shit-talking is done, we say good show or good game and move on ....
But outright disrespect of someone you've never met --- What's the point of that? I thought we went to college to grow?
It seems some still have some growing up to do.
