And That's All I'm Gonna Say About That ...

Ok I'mma say this and be done with it ...

Yes,  a company (i.e. Chick-Fil-A) Executive PUBLICLY released his controversial opinion and chooses to spend his money toward some hateful causes ... Okay.  That sucks.

But I'm sure there are HUNDREDS of companies you probably spend money with on a regular basis that PRIVATELY do it and you have no clue.

If I stopped patronizing restaurants because of discriminatory practices against Blacks and Women (my demographic), I'd probably starve.

There are LOTS of CEOs, franchises and companies with skeletons in their closets and questionable donations on their books.  This one just happened to put it on record.

I live in a country where we uphold ancient legislation that once considered my race less than a whole person, and denied my gender the right to vote ... How ass backwards and oppressive is that?

Just like if Chick-Fil-A decided to change their mind and AMEND their decisions (as our revered Constitution has), is that supposed to make you forget everything they did before that???

Our society funds wars, praises capitalism and perfection of our body image, puts celebrities on a pedestal but cuts jobs to the working/middle class, shoves religion down peoples throats, and then tells them this is a "free country" with "inalienable rights" ...

Hypocritical much?

If you want to boycott the company and think that will change it, fine.  If you want to go get your food, whether it's because you co-sign with those anti-gay marriage ideals or because you're hungry and want some chicken ... Fine.  I'm not taking a side either way.   And just like I have a right to my feelings, ideals and opinions, so do you.

Okay -- Yes, it's disturbing to find out that a place I frequently spend my money chooses to patronize charities that practice hate or discrimination, and the company itself may be guilty of such practices.

Still, as a journalist seeking the WHOLE story, I'd like to see the other half of the books and what other monies went towards.

I know that when I go to get my No. 1 (a classic sandwich combo), I see plenty of female workers and minorities in the store I frequent.  I see kids and their families on Tuesdays, I see school and sports fundraisers during the school year, and on Sundays I kind of miss them ... but realize they have Sunday off to spend time with their families.

Speaking of which ... let me say this:

People sit in churches all over country at least once a week, led by a person has strict religious beliefs, and almost every lesson is a practice in condemning something --- The Devil.  Liquor and Drugs.  Fornication.  And yes, even Homosexuality.  But Is anyone boycotting church?

When the ish hits the fan over and over again with religious leaders being caught in immoral positions ... Does anyone say, I'm not going to church anymore ever again because that ONE fallen clergy member hates gays and touches children?

Nope.

So why do we do it to a restaurant?  Where franchise owners are probably completely unaware of the personal feelings of their CEO or COO? They're just trying to feed their family and yours ...

Honestly this shouldn't be an attack on a brand or restaurant, this should be an attack on ideals that have been forced on America since it was first founded.  The ideal that our religious beliefs trump rational and practical behavior.  The ideal that God looks down on certain differences and will banish you to the underworld if you do not comply and repent.

We MUST pray before a meal or we're bad people ...
We MUST keep prayer and patriotism in schools or we are Godless ...
We MUST attend church or we're bad Christians ...
We MUST pay tithes or we're stealing from God ...
We MUST follow the Bible to the letter, or we are heathens ...

Need I go on?

Our beloved country was founded on certain ideals, including even racist and sexist ones.  The foundation still stands, no matter how hidden it is by all the pretty grass, flowers (and buildings) generations have planted over it.

Chick-Fil-A isn't the first company to have a leader with those ideals, and it won't be the last.  Think about that next time you order at any drive-through chain ...

And make sure you think about it again, when you fill the pews on Sunday ... next to your local Chick-Fil-A workers, who are just employees and don't deserve your disdain anymore than two men wanting to get married do.

And that's all I'm going to say about that.
