Oscars Snub Denzel, SAGs Air Sunday

First the half-ass Golden Globes, now this ... The Oscars showed no love for Denzel Washington!

With TWO films up for Oscar buzz this awards season ("American Gangster" and "The Great Debaters"), he didn't get ONE nomination. Boooooo!!
They shot, edited and distributed Debaters in six months or less and still didn't get anything ...

The ONLY Black face among the dozens of Oscar nominees was Denzel's AG co-star, the imcomparable RUBY DEE ....

(Can you believe she's 83???!!!).
Mrs. Ruby got a nod for Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Gangster.

JUNO, the comedy/drama about a pregnant teen (which I haven't seen, but want to) scored 4 nominations, including Best Picture.

The Oscars air Sunday, February 24th on ABC.

And though the Academy didn't give DW the kudos he deserved, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) sure is ...

American Gangster is nominated for Best Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture,

but they're up against Hairspray, so we'll see how that turns out!

Other "colorful" SAG nominees include:

  • Ruby Dee (again, for Best Supporting Role by a Female for American Gangster)
  • Vanessa Williams for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Comedy (Ugly Betty), and ...

  • Queen Latifah is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries (for her role in HBO's "Life Support" ... She was the only Black person to win a Golden Globe and it was for the same role).

For a list of all SAG nominees, go HERE.

{Side note: SAG winners often go on to win Oscars (Jennifer Hudson did last year)}.

The SAG Awards will be broadcast Sunday, January 27th on TBS and TNT, 8/7 c ... {But don't expect to see ALL of your favorites at the show. Though the Striking Writers are sparing it (and the GRAMMYs) from picket lines, a lot of actors are not supporting the awards show ... guess we'll just have to wait and see!}
